Word of Life was founded in the 1940's by Jack Wyrtzen for the purpose of reaching young people with the Gospel of Christ. His burning desire to see people come to Christ brought Jack to England and Scotland for a series of evangelistic meetings in 1946.

Since 1980, Word of Life has operated in Britain for the purpose of evangelising and discipling young people to build up the Church of the Lord Jesus Christ. This has been achieved primarily through camps, clubs, Evangelistic Youth Events (EYEs) and the Associate Staff Advancement Programme (ASAP).
